5-axis machining

Features on every face, without a fixture for each one.

We run 5-axis two different ways. A Quaser MF500U trunnion machine gives true simultaneous 5-axis on prismatic parts. The Multus gives 5-axis with turning in the same envelope. Compound-angle holes, tilted bosses, ports and contoured surfaces get cut in the orientation they were designed in — not approximated with a fixture.

  • Simultaneous 5-axis + mill-turn
  • Tolerances to ±0.0001″
  • Minimum order 1 part
  • 2-day rush available
  • Livermore, CA

In the machine

5-axis slot with a helical start bore.

The cutter ramps in on a helix rather than plunging, then drives the slot with the B-axis head tilted. Kinder to the tool, kinder to the finish.

Typical work

Parts we make this way.

If yours isn't on the list, it doesn't mean we can't — it means send the model and we'll tell you straight.

  • Compound-angle ports and bosses
  • Contoured and sculpted surfaces
  • Thin-wall structural brackets
  • Housings with features on all faces
  • Angled hole patterns
  • Manifolds
  • Swept and swarfed profiles
  • Parts a 3-axis shop has to fixture three times

Other services

Not quite it?

Parts rarely fit one category cleanly. We'll route your job to whichever machine holds it best — that's the advantage of having all of them under one roof.

Why it comes out right

What you actually get.

Simulated before it cuts

Programs are verified against the model with the real machine and workholding modelled. Collisions get found on a screen.

Our own post processors

The code that runs the machine is written and maintained in-house — not a generic template with the corners knocked off.

Two machines, two strengths

Prismatic 5-axis work goes on the Quaser trunnion. A 5-axis part that also needs turning stays on the Multus and never moves at all.

Send us the model.

You'll get a straight answer on whether this is the right process for your part — including if it isn't.
