Gears & splines

Gears and splines, cut without sending the part out.

Gear work normally means a second supplier, a second setup and a datum you have to re-establish. We cut gears and splines on the Multus — by skiving, broaching or gear milling — in the same clamping as the journals, faces and bores they have to run true to.

  • Skiving · broaching · gear milling
  • Tolerances to ±0.0001″
  • Minimum order 1 part
  • 2-day rush available
  • Livermore, CA

Typical work

Parts we make this way.

If yours isn't on the list, it doesn't mean we can't — it means send the model and we'll tell you straight.

  • Splined shafts
  • Internal splines in pulleys
  • Splined and keyed bores
  • Spur gears
  • Serrations and toothed features
  • Sprockets and timing profiles
  • Gear blanks finished complete
  • Shafts with gear and journal features together

Other services

Not quite it?

Parts rarely fit one category cleanly. We'll route your job to whichever machine holds it best — that's the advantage of having all of them under one roof.

Why it comes out right

What you actually get.

Concentric by construction

When the spline and the journals it must run true to are cut in the same clamping, concentricity is a property of the setup rather than something you inspect and hope for.

No gear-shop handoff

Sending a part out for gear work adds a supplier, a lead time and a re-fixturing. Cutting it here removes all three.

Skiving for internal forms

Power skiving cuts internal gears and splines continuously, using synchronised rotation between tool and workpiece — which is exactly what a C-axis mill-turn with live tooling is for.

Send us the model.

You'll get a straight answer on whether this is the right process for your part — including if it isn't.
